The programme, from Thursday 1 February 2024 to Saturday 3 February 2024, promises to provide participants with an in-depth knowledge of the European Union’s institutional framework, communication strategies in the field of journalism and digital content
Day 1: Thursday, February 1st, 2024
08:20 – 09:00: Arrival and Registration of Participants
09:00 – 09:30: Coffee & Icebreaker
09:30 – 10:00: Opening and Intro to the 1 Module
10:00 – 11:00: EU Knowledge – Institutional Framework
The first session delves into the EU’s institutional framework, with a focus on the European Commission, European Parliament, and the Council of the European Union. Participants will gain an understanding of the EU’s legislative process.
11:00 – 11:30: Break
A brief break allows participants to regroup and network with fellow attendees.
11:30 – 13:00: EU Knowledge – Values and Democracy
The morning continues with an exploration of the historical context, key treaties of the European Union, the EU’s powers, and the process of European integration .
13:00 – 14:00: Lunch
Participants will enjoy a delicious lunch before diving into the afternoon sessions.
14:00 – 15:00: EU Knowledge – Focus on the European Parliament
This session highlights the European Parliament’s powers, political groups, parliamentary committees , main legislative dossiers, and relevant parliamentary events.
15:00 – 16:30: Workshop – Online Writing and SEO Indexing
The afternoon workshop focuses on online writing and SEO indexing , essential skills for effective communication in the digital age.
16:30 – 17:00: Coffee Break
A short coffee break allows participants to recharge before the final session of the day.
17:00 – 18:00: Discussion – Reporting the “Brussels Bubble”
The day concludes with a thought-provoking discussion on reporting the “Brussels Bubble,” comparing the approaches taken in Malta and Italy.
Day 2: Friday, February 2nd, 2024
09:00 – 09:30: Networking Coffee
Day 2 begins with a networking coffee session, promoting interactions and the exchange of ideas among participants.
09:30 – 11:00: Communication – News Desk Work on European Affairs
Participants will engage in news desk work on European affairs, focusing on specific topics related to European policies .
11:00 – 11:30: Break
A short break allows for relaxation and refreshment.
11:30 – 13:00: Communication – Managing Fake News and Institutional Communication on Social Media
This session addresses the risks of information manipulation, fact-checking, and the ethics of journalism. Participants will also explore institutional communication on social media .
13:00 – 14:00: Lunch
Lunchtime provides an opportunity for participants to network and discuss the morning’s topics.
14:00 – 15:00: Communication – Prof. Carmen Sammut on Media and Maltese Society
A special guest, Prof. Carmen Sammut , an author renowned for her work on media and society, will share insights and expertise.
15:00 – 16:30: Workshop – Digital Content Creation
In the afternoon workshop, participants will learn the art of digital content creation, including graphics software, photo editing, video editing, and copywriting. They will create a social media post based on an EU Commission press release .
16:30 – 17:00: Coffee Break
A brief coffee break will allow participants to recharge before the final session of the day.
17:00 – 18:00: Discussion – EU Funds for ESG Initiatives and Climate Change
The day concludes with a discussion on EU funds for implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives in the face of climate change. The connection between the EU, national, and local dimensions will be explored.
Day 3: Saturday, February 3rd, 2024

09:30 – 11:00: European Elections 2024 – Voting System and Socio-Political Context
This session delves into the voting system, providing insights into the socio-political context of the 2024 European elections .

A short break allows participants to recharge before the next session.
11:30 – 13:00: European Elections 2024 – Democratic Process and Participation
Participants will explore the significance of the democratic process and citizen participation in the European elections.
13:00 – 14:00: Lunch
Lunchtime offers participants a chance to network and reflect on the morning’s discussions.
14:00 – 15:00: European Elections 2024 – The Role of Media
This session focuses on the role of media in the European elections, offering insights into interactive European sources .
15:00 – 15:30: Workshop – EU Parliament from a Journalist’s Perspective
Participants will learn to view the EU Parliament through the eyes of a journalist, gaining insights into its activities.
15:30 – 16:00: Coffee Break
A final coffee break allows for a brief respite before the concluding session .
16:00 – 18:00: Discussion – Meeting with Maltese MEPs
The module concludes with a unique opportunity for participants to meet with Maltese Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and engage in meaningful discussions.
18:00 – 19:00: Closing Remarks & Delivery of Diplomas
The event concludes with closing remarks and the presentation of diplomas to participants, acknowledging their successful completion of the module.
19:00 – 21:00: Networking Cocktail
